Computer Aided Design (CAD)

is a computer technology that allows engineers, technicians and designers to increase their productivity, the quality of their designs, their management and communication, and their interconnection with other engineering departments through the use of computers and specialized software.

CAD is a key part of product development within product life cycle management processes and, as such, is used in conjunction with other tools such as computer-aided engineering (CAE), finite element analysis (FEA, FEM), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), numerically controlled machines (CNC), as well as documentation management and revision control.

Importance

The use of CAD improves the manufacturing, development and design of products with the help of the latest advances in information technology, allowing them to be manufactured with greater precision, higher quality, better testing, at a lower price and faster than by conventional methods.
